SASKATOON, CANADA. (December 2007). Taking a few test shots with the latest acquisition in my lens lineup, a retro OM Zuiko 50mm f1.8, which is a throwback from the Olympus OM-System film cameras of the 1970s and 80s. Definitely still learning how to use the new lens, but so far I like the results - I think it'll work nicely in low-light, portrait situations. Not bad for only $35. The above picture was shot wide open with no post-processing applied. Original photo properties: Olympus E-410 dSLR, OM Zuiko Auto-S 50mm f1.8 lens (100mm, 35mm equivalent), handheld, manual focus and exposure, matrix metering, 1/25s f1.8, ISO 400, 3648 x 2736 pixels, RAW.

  1. OMG, your lens sounds eerily similar to the lens I'm coveting at the moment - a Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 ... *drool* Not expensive, just a PIA to find over here... More pictures, please.

  2. Try to find it - a fast, light, 50mm is a nice addition to any arsenal ... as you know, on a digital camera, the focal length multiplier also makes it a perfect portrait lens. Kind of surprises me it's hard to find though, you Canonites seem to be pretty lucky when it comes to lens availability ... have you tried one of the McBain outlets in your neck of the woods?
